Sewing Room

Before:

The sewing "room" was actually in my bedroom before.  I have a fairly large master bedroom, so I thought it would work out.  After 3 years of sewing in my room, I realized...I really do "need" my own little space.  I love working on about 15 projects at the same time, and leaving all my stuff out while I work on it was getting in the way of me feeling comfortable and at ease in my room.  I would stay up and "stew" about quilt designs, how to use that fabric better, etc.. So, now I can go in my room, and have very little to spark my creativity...and hopefully, help me sleep better at night.

As you can see, it got kinda messy in the last little while.  I have been trying to get quilts done at a feverish pace, which is seriously cutting into my cleaning up time.

My fabric shelf before.  So much to do...so little time.
You might be thinking....this is not the sewing room.  Ahhhh, it is now!  This is Mitchell's room before.  Nice big red stripe.  See, I really did love stripes.   Painting over that was quite an adventure.  Okay, it wasn't that bad, thank goodness for primer.

After:  Here's the scoop.  This is what the sewing room looks like right now.  I have started going for it again, so fabric is out, and we are moving along.  Also, there are no decorations up, as of yet.  Maybe someday, but it seems like time  stops for no woman...so maybe someday it will get "really" finished.  Maybe not, you never know!

This time I organized my fabrics by ROYGBIV.  Loved doing it.  Loved going through my fabrics again.  Ahhh, I love you MODA.
There's a closer look.
Love you Bernina.
It is not that easy to get a great picture of drapes.  That darn light keeps trying to interfere with the picture.

Not like there is going to be any sleeping in here, but I have a bed, and I am not getting rid of it.  So, to all of you friends out there who want to come and visit.  This is it.  This is where you will be sleeping.  And, it doesn't stop there, it is a trundle bed, for double the fun!   Okay, so for the 4 people that come, this bed's for you.

Ooh I'm so jealous, I don't quilt but I have plenty of sewing and crocheting and what not that I never have space for. I have been trying to figure out how to turn one of the rooms into my room too!

Hi! This is Angela from the AFG crowd. Thanks for posting about your sewing room. Looks good. I was wondering: (1) Where did you get the shelves for your fabric? Did you make them? (2) Does having the fabric out in the open effect the life of the fabric at all? I thought I read somewhere that you should not keep it stored in the open. But I could be dreaming, or that could just apply to people like me who have fabric from forever ago that I still haven't used. :> Thanks!

Also I didn't realize that yesterday was your birthday! Happy birthday!

To answer Angela's question: Shelves from Ikea. The fabric out in the open thing: It depends. What I mean is, the fabric can get sunbleached. How I combat this, is pull my shades during most of the day, and I use my fabric quickly, and rotate them often. You could have them out in the open, but hang a sheet over them if you are worried about them getting bleached. Also, if you live in a dry climate, I can imagine they can also get dry and brittle. I have never experienced that though. Also, the better the fabric you use, the less problems you are going to have with that. However, this is after years and years (the sunbleach thing can happen sooner). I hope that info helps.

This looks so great!! It looks like a fabric store. You really need to put more pictures of your finished quilts on your blog. I would love to see them. What are you doing with them all? Are you selling them or just giving them all away?

Sarah, this looks AMAZING! Your own little Eutopia. You have really done a good job with this room and I am just so happy for you. I want to see how much this has opened up your bedroom too.

What a beautiful thing, Sarah! I am only slightly jealous...But just think if you started rug hooking...then you'd have to have a spot for all the wool you'd be collecting. You could do it though--and I know you'd make it look great!
